Once you start preparing your bags, keep in mind that when you go to Outreach, you can bring only what you can personally carry or wheel. CLOTHING On the DTS you will meet and live with people from many different cultural backgrounds. What is considered appropriate in one cultural context may be inappropriate in another. So for this reason we want to be above reproach and value modesty in how we dress. It is important for YWAM Te Ao Mārama, that you are aware of this and respectful to those around when choosing your attire. In certain outreach locations, this is a MUST in order to respect various cultures and have an effective outreach. POWHIRI This will be a special ceremony we in Aotearoa (New Zealand) always do to welcome people into our home. You'll be given more information once we are about to start, but we encourage you to bring social clothes to be worn in black (for men: shirt + long pants, for women: a dress or shirt - no cleavage showing + knee-length skirt) or if you'd like, a cultural attire you possess. EVERY DAY - We encourage you to bring ‘comfy’ clothes mainly for the first portion of the school, although always remembering to be presentable, especially for class time, to honour our speakers. You’ll also need clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty or ruined as we do some work outdoors. SPECIAL OCCASIONS - These special occasions include Love Feast, Commissioning Night, Graduation, etc so we encourage you to bring something nice, look smart! OUTREACH - Our locations are primarily in hot countries, so please bring comfortable yet modest summer wear. Jumpers are also needed, as the mornings and nights can be chilly. When we are doing ministry, longer pants and and skirts are strongly encouraged. Please bring comfortable shoes but be advised they may become dirty or ruined. BEDDING The bedding you'll need for your Training Phase will be provided (fitted sheets, pillow + duvet with covers, blankets), for outreach, we can provide you with a sleeping bag, but if you need anything else, you'll have to provide that yourself.
